Daily Stress Downregulation

5 to 10 minutes a day of structured downregulation. Lowers cortisol and blood pressure.

What it does

Chronic stress is not a feeling — it's a sustained physiological state with measurable effects on blood pressure, cortisol, inflammation, and sleep. Brief daily downregulation prevents accumulation. Format matters less than consistency; 'I'll deal with it when it gets bad' does not work.

Vagal tone modulates the balance between sympathetic and parasympathetic systems. Slow breathing (~5–6 breaths/min) directly stimulates the vagus nerve and shifts the balance toward parasympathetic dominance.

  • heart rate variability
  • cortisol

What the evidence shows

Overall evidence strength: Moderate certainty

Who it's for, who should skip

Anyone under sustained load. 5–10 min/day plus 1–2 longer blocks/week, in whatever format sustains adherence — breathing, a walk without a phone, a low-stimulation environment.
